Jewish Life Before the War - Optician
12017-04-19T11:00:44-04:00Anonymous121This barometer was sold at Schutz Optick (the storefront pictured here) in Liberec (Reichenberg), Czechoslovakia. The store was operated by the Schutz family. Pictured here are Stephanie Schutz with her daughter, Gertrude Kaiserova (nee Schutz), and granddaughter Eva.
When the Nazis invaded in 1938, the Schutz/Kaiser family escaped the city and a German apprentice who worked for the family took it over. The family was not able to take any of the goods from the store.
Stephanie Schutz and Hugo Kaiser (husband of Gertrude) were killed in Auschwitz. Eva and her mother survived Auschwitz, however Gertrude died shortly after liberation.
