Tips to follow before starting your first yoga class

When you're brand new to yoga, you're likely to be asking lots of questions about what you're about to experience, including what to wear, what to bring to class and how you can prepare yourself. You'll be at ease in your first yoga class if you know what to expect and how to prepare. These are the important things you must know before your first flow.

 What to Wear

 Although it is possible that you're supposed to be wearing stylish yoga clothing to attend class, that's not the reality. Use what you have, and wear the basics for your first few classes. Here are a few tips:

 Shoes: Yoga is most often done barefoot. It is not uncommon to see people with some kind of sock or shoe, however, this is often due to injuries or a medical condition. Yoga socks are a compromise if you are uncomfortable wearing shoes in front of strangers. These special socks have grips with non-slip bottoms which "grab" the mat to keep your feet from sliding about.

 Pants: There are a variety of different types of yoga pants available, however, you don't need to run out and buy a special pair before your first class. Any pair of comfortable workout pants or shorts will do, just make sure you do not wear pants that aren't stretchy like jeans.

 After just a couple of classes it could be that you decide you need pants that are shorter in length, looser or higher-waisted, or aren't falling down every time you stretch up. It's the perfect time to shop. You have two options You can either shop at big-box stores like Target and Walmart which carry sportswear and accessories, or you can look for stores that specialize in catering to the market for yoga.

 Tops: Yoga is best performed in a t-shirt that's a bit fitted. T-shirts that are too big, as well as loose-fitting workout shirts aren't ideal as they'll slide down every time you turn over...and you'll be constantly bending over. These kinds of tops are popular because they allow freedom of movement within the shoulders and arms. Wear whatever kind of bra you are comfortable with for your workout.

 Hot Yoga: There are special considerations if you plan to perform hot yoga or Bikram. Cotton clothing and long pants aren't recommended for hot yoga classes. They trap sweat and hold your body temperature close to the surface. It's beneficial to wear shorts and moisture-wicking apparel to facilitate the exercise.  What do I need to bring

 You only need to bring an optimistic attitude and an open heart to your first class. Of course, there's plenty of exciting accessories that you can bring to your yoga collection over time, but start by taking it slow and keeping things simple.

 Mat: You don't need mats to go to your first yoga class. The majority of yoga studios provide mats for rent at a cost of $1 or two. As you keep going to classes, or exercising at home, you'll be looking to buy your own mat. Although it's tempting to purchase a cheap mat from your local shop however, if your yoga routine is serious, you should buy a premium mat.
